Das Museum für Kunst und Geschichte von Lisieux präsentiert eine Ausstellung, die Norman Rockwell (1894-1978) gewidmet ist, einem der beliebtesten amerikanischen Künstler des 20. Jahrhunderts. Rockwell ist eine der großen Figuren des Hyperrealismus. Norman Rockwell realisierte ein üppiges Werk mit Werbeplakaten (Coca-Cola, Kellogg’s, Red Wing Shoes…), Illustrationen für Kalender und Bücher, Filmplakate (Der Magnificent Ambersons von Orson Welles, 1941), aber vor allem kreierte er 321 Covers für die Saturday Evening Post. Mit seiner Arbeit skizziert Rockwell eine amerikanische Landschaft der 1930er-60er Jahre, die Bilder kreiert, die eine gewisse Idee vom American Way of Life enthüllen. Ab 1964 arbeitet er für die Zeitschrift Look und ihre Illustrationen werden dadurch immer engagierter. Er verurteilt Rassendiskriminierung (The Problem We All Live With, 1964), Regierungspolitik, Krieg, Armut und die Konsumgesellschaft.

The Museum of Art and History of Lisieux presents an exhibition dedicated to Norman Rockwell (1894-1978), one of the most popular American artists of the 20th century. An illustrator and figurative painter, Rockwell is one of the great figures of hyperrealism. Norman Rockwell produced an overabundant work including advertising posters (Coca-Cola, Kellog’s, Red Wing Shoes, etc.), illustrations for calendars and books, movie posters (The Magnificent Ambersons by Orson Welles, 1941) but above all he created 321 covers for the magazine Saturday Evening Post. Through his work, Rockwell paints a landscape of America from the 1930s-60s, creating images that reveal a certain idea of the American way of life. From 1964, he works for the magazine Look, his illustrations become more committed. He denounces racial discrimination (The Problem We All Live With, 1964), government policy, war, poverty and the consumer society.

Norman Rockwell realizzò un’opera folgorante comprendente in particolare manifesti pubblicitari (Coca-Cola, Kellog’s, Red Wing Shoes ¿), illustrazioni per calendari e libri, manifesti di film (The Magnificent Ambersons di Orson Welles, 1941) ma soprattutto creò 321 copertine per la rivista Saturday Evening Post. Con la sua opera, Rockwell spazzola un paesaggio dell’America degli anni 1930-60, generando immagini che rivelano una certa idea dell’american way of life. A partire dal 1964, lavora per la rivista Look, le sue illustrazioni diventano allora più impegnate. Denuncia la discriminazione razziale (The Problem We All Live With, 1964), la politica governativa, la guerra, la povertà e la società dei consumi.
