Watoo 2024, it’s on!!

It’s a comic book festival, it’s transdisciplinary, there’s entertainment, shows and discoveries to be made.

Back in Spring 2023 a slightly crazy idea began to grow in the minds of a group of comic book enthusiasts: to develop for the Canton of Geneva a comic book festival which would build bridges between different creative projects including music, theatre and sculpture. And so, Watoo was born.

The comic book is itself enough in terms of art - because there are no age limits to access it, it is not hampered by boundaries such as genre, style, social class or ambition. Indeed the comic book open doors to all other forms of artistic activity. The organisational committee wishes that this transdisciplinary spirit will infuse this event which it hopes will be original, appealing and recurrent both in the landscape of local Geneva culture as well in the wider Swiss Romande region.

Watoo wants to be a festival for all and for the young, varied, educational and creative. In a word, it wants to be unique! It will host 25 authors from every horizon, with Christophe Bertschy - author of Nelson and the Mini-Peoples - as its first guest of honour. He will be joined by, amongst others ,Thierry Capezzone (Petzi), Michel Rodrigue (Cubitus, Clifton), Vincent & Emile Boré (Jean-Blaise), Maester (Soeur Marie-Thérèze des Batignoles), Fanny Modena (Cocktail), Garréra (les Oiseaux), Dan (Soda), Philippe (Tanguy & Laverdure). Rich in performances, entertainment, games, interactions and discoveries, the Watoo programme gives pride of place to the comic book on stage with:

- The Pestacle of Jean Blaise Fiction/ Emile Boré (emiliebore.com)
- for children from 5 yrs old, this performance is a musical and animated interpretation for all the family
- Friday, 27th September at 1730, main auditorium at la Julienne in Plan les Ouates
- The Crazy Puppets of Michel Rodrigue

- Symphonic Marsupilami - a funny, interactive performance for everyone in the heart of the forest of Palombe!
- Sunday, 29th September at 1630, main auditorium at la Julienne in Plan les Ouates

Watoo will also be:
- a rally across the town in search of works of art in a massive treasure hunt!
- an exhibition by Bertschy on the life of Nelson
- entertainment for any and everyone to learn more about the comic book
- a book shop
- meetings and happenings
- local gastronomy
and, of course….. book signings!

And, above all, the Watoo festival is a free festival!!
