To mark the release of his latest book, "King Kasaï", published by Stock in the "Ma nuit au musée" collection, Christophe Boltanski talks to Olivier Christin.
King Kasaï is the name of a stuffed elephant that has long been the symbol of the Royal Museum for Central Africa, near Brussels. Christophe Boltanski spends the night in front of the "King of Kasaï" and next to a gloriously debunked Leopold II, in this former showcase of the Belgian colonial project, now renamed the Africa Museum. The story goes beyond Belgian colonization and concerns us all. Following in the footsteps of the hunter who took part in the Museum's vast zoological expedition and shot the elephant in 1956, the author ventures into the heart of the most violent darkness, that of our memory.

A l'occasion de la sortie de son dernier livre, «King Kasaï », publié chez Stock dans la collection «Ma nuit au musée», Christophe Boltanski dialogue avec Olivier Christin.
King Kasaï est le nom d’un éléphant empaillé qui fut longtemps le symbole du Musée royal de l’Afrique centrale, situé près de Bruxelles. C’est devant le « roi du Kasaï » et près d’un Léopold II à la gloire déboulonnée, dans cette ancienne vitrine du projet colonial belge aujourd’hui rebaptisée Africa Museum, que Christophe Boltanski passe la nuit. L’histoire va au-delà de la colonisation belge et nous concerne tous. En partant sur les traces du chasseur qui participa à la vaste expédition zoologique du Musée et abattit l’éléphant en 1956, l’auteur s’aventure au cœur des plus violentes ténèbres, celles de notre mémoire.
