It is a state in chronic deficit, where the richest avoid taxes. A regime that is out of breath. A people at the end of their rope, who demand justice and see nothing coming. A rich but blocked country, prey to the whims of a disturbed climate. Such is France in the summer of 1789. Until in one night, at Versailles, everything changes. It’s the Night of August 4th.

C’est un État en déficit chronique, où les plus riches échappent à l’impôt. Un régime à bout de souffle. Un peuple à bout de nerfs, qui réclame justice et ne voit rien venir. Un pays riche mais bloqué, en proie aux caprices d’un climat déréglé. Telle est la France à l’été 1789. Jusqu’à ce qu’en une nuit, à Versailles, tout bascule. C’est la Nuit du 4 août.

Het is een staat met chronisch tekort, waar de rijkste belastingen vermijden. Een regime dat buiten adem is. Een volk aan het einde van hun touw, die gerechtigheid eist en niets ziet aankomen. Een rijk maar geblokkeerd land, ten prooi aan de grillen van een verstoord klimaat. Dat is Frankrijk in de zomer van 1789. Tot in één nacht, in Versailles, alles verandert. Het is de nacht van 4 augustus.
