Real jewel of the legacy of the great architect of Louis XIV, Vauban, the citadel of Lille is a military work still in activity which belongs to the French army and which welcomes in particular the 43rd infantry regiment. The building built by order of King Louis XIV by Sébastien le Prestre, Marquis de Vauban impresses both with its spectacular dimensions and its architecture. Nicknamed the «queen of the citadels», it has seen the birth of a new neighborhood around Rue Royale and it is surrounded by the Citadel Park, the green lung of the city, where Lille enjoy various sports and walking. Véritable bijou de l’héritage du grand architecte de Louis XIV, Vauban, la citadelle de Lille est un ouvrage militaire toujours en activité qui appartient à l’armée française et qui accueille notamment le 43ème régiment d’infanterie.
Le bâtiment construit sur ordre du roi Louis XIV par Sébastien le Prestre, Marquis de Vauban impressionne tant par ses dimensions spectaculaires que par son architecture. Surnommée la « reine des citadelles », elle a vu naître à proximité un nouveau quartier autour de la rue Royale et elle est entouré par le parc de la Citadelle, le poumon vert de la ville, où les lillois aiment pratiquer divers sports et se balader.

Echt juweel van de erfenis van de grote architect van Lodewijk XIV, Vauban, de citadel van Lille is een militair werk dat nog steeds in activiteit is en behoort tot het Franse leger en dat met name het 43ste infanterie regiment verwelkomt. Het gebouw, gebouwd in opdracht van koning Lodewijk XIV door Sébastien le Prestre, Marquis de Vauban imponeert zowel met zijn spectaculaire afmetingen als zijn architectuur. Bijgenaamd de «koningin van de citadels», het heeft de geboorte van een nieuwe wijk rond Rue Royale gezien en het is omgeven door de Citadel Park, de groene long van de stad, waar Lille genieten van verschillende sporten en wandelen.
