Guided tours I Picasso and the Arab avant-gardes
Guided tour every Saturday and Sunday at 3:30 pm
The exhibition
Supported by unprecedented research and the presentation of works by major Arab artists never presented in Europe, this exhibition highlights the fruitful dialogue between the Spanish master and modern Arabs.
Author of Guernica, portraitist of the Algerian fighter Djamila Boupacha, Picasso was an icon for the Arab artistic scenes marked by Independence. Claiming the moral example of the Andalusian master, the Arab avant-gardes engage through their paintings in the face of the tragedies of their countries.
The exhibition retraces in a new way the artistic and ideological stakes of the twentieth century: figuration, the primary arts, pacifism, anticolonialism and the dream of a better world.
Curator Mario Choueiry, Chargé de mission at the IMA (Paris) Françoise Cohen, Director of the IMA-Tourcoing
