The Fresnoy – National Studio of Contemporary Arts presents at the end of a year of exchanges, experiences, research, more than 50 new works in the fields of image, sound and digital creation, imagined and realized by young artists and guest teacher artists.
Jean-Hubert Martin, curator of this 2019 edition, wanted to add to each installation a work or an old object that does not belong to contemporary art and offers a counterpoint by analogy. The book chosen and compared is similar to these images that can be found in practically all artists' studios: postcards, newspaper clippings, invitations, etc. These reminders often have no formal relationship with the artist’s work, but constitute poles or topics within a constellation where the creative imagination circulates.
