Hollywood-sur-Nil, the golden age of Egyptian cinema

The 1950s and 1960s saw the reorganization of the film industry and the emergence of a new generation of directors who would profoundly mark world cinema.
Samstag 5 Oktober 2019, 16:30Passed

From the beginning of the 20th century, major Egyptian cities participated in the birth of universal cinema and the rapid emergence of a regional market. A pause in the 1950s and 1960s will shed light on the golden age of Egyptian cinema and question artistic and economic transformations, beyond the national context and over time. This pivotal period is marked both by the reorganization of the industry – in its production, studios and distribution of films – and by deeper changes in artistic creations with the emergence of a new generation of directors, and works that renew film registers.
