Es gibt reichlich Wasser auf der Erde, dem sogenannten «blauen Planeten», der von Ozeanen bedeckt ist. Reichlich, aber wertvoll, begehrt in trockenen Regionen und so oft begehrt. Kostbar, sie ist noch wertvoller, wenn sie unseren wundersamen Planeten einmal verlassen hat! Aber woher kommt das Wasser im Weltraum und wo findet man es im Sonnensystem? Und weiter in der Galaxie, um andere Sterne als die Sonne? Auf der Erde hat das Wasser das Leben ermöglicht; konnte es diese wunderbare Rolle anderswo spielen?

Water is abundant on Earth, the so-called ocean-covered blue planet. Abundant, but precious, sought after in arid regions and so often coveted. Precious, it is even more so once left our miraculous planet! But where does water come from in space, and where to look for it in the Solar System? And further in the galaxy, around stars other than the Sun? On Earth, water has allowed life; has it been able to play this formidable role elsewhere?
