Neighbourhood walk in Les Pâquis: three places where people borrow instead of buying
A guided tour of Plan-les-Ouates on Saturday 14 November, 9.30am to 12.30pm, with a local resident and a watchmaking guide, for the town's 175th anniversary.

You probably know its industrial zone. A few decades ago, Plan-les-Ouates lived to the rhythm of its farms and fields. For its 175th anniversary, the town tells its story in two voices.
Maurice Gardiol has lived here for almost fifty years and received the town's civic merit award. He takes you from the town hall to the mosque, from the church and its stained-glass windows to the new neighbourhoods, sharing stories you won't find in any guidebook.
Alongside him, Sylvia Graa, a guide specialising in watchmaking, explains why the great watchmaking houses chose to settle here.
To round off the morning, a local resident opens the doors of her historic house for an aperitif.

Vous connaissez sans doute sa zone industrielle. Il y a quelques décennies, Plan-les-Ouates vivait au rythme de ses fermes et de ses champs. Pour ses 175 ans, la commune se raconte à deux voix.
Maurice Gardiol y vit depuis près de cinquante ans. Honoré du mérite communal, il vous emmène de la mairie à la mosquée, du temple et de ses vitraux aux nouveaux quartiers, et vous livre les histoires qu'on ne lit dans aucun guide.
À ses côtés, Sylvia Graa, guide spécialisée en horlogerie, vous explique pourquoi les grandes maisons horlogères ont choisi de s'installer ici.
Pour finir la matinée, une habitante vous ouvre les portes de sa maison historique pour l'apéritif.
