When the world goes adrift
Guided by the song of whales, the Teatro de Lo Inestable forges a relentless polyphonic narrative that has the power of sea scrolls and the twilight beauty of human epics.
A cayuco is the name of a small wooden canoe in Central America and the Caribbean. But, over there, it is also an expression to designate the passage through a difficult situation. Like the one faced by the 25 passengers of one of these frail boats in search of a better world in the cold and infinite silence of the ocean. Devoted to the whims of the elements, lulled by the friendly song of gigantic creatures, the cayuco will drift 4,200 kilometers over the course of a three-month journey. Using documents compiled by a marine biologist, a woman tries to retrace the stages of the migrant crew's journey, both spiritual and on the water. Carried by a text of rare density and based on an ingenious device, which calls on audiovisual language as well as the manipulation of objects, the show opens up a space for reflection where poetry and politics come together. We let ourselves be caught up in the cruel game of this powerful story-telling machine.
Inspired by a true story, this tragic drift echoes those of an era that fails to keep humanist values afloat. A spectacle of the unfathomable, which oscillates between legend and reality, "4,200 km" leaves salt on our skins and a little clarity in our hearts.
