Matthias ist der Enkel von Francis Meilland und der Sohn von Alain Meilland. Geboren 1977, arbeitete er mit seiner Großmutter Louisette Meilland ab dem Alter von 4 Jahren bis 1987 und half ihr und ihrem Team beim Pollensammeln und der Bestäubung. Im Jahr 1983, im Alter von 6 Jahren, wählte Matthias die Rose, die seinen Namen tragen würde: eine einfache Floribunda, einfach zu kultivieren und ein leuchtendes Rot. In den 90er Jahren folgte Matthias seinem Vater Alain nach Mittel- und Südamerika, um sich mit dem Schnittblumensektor vertraut zu machen. Von 1997 bis 2000 studierte er Film und Fotografie am Monterey Peninsula College in Kalifornien, wo er seine Frau Devi kennenlernte. Sie leben in Antibes im Süden Frankreichs. Seit 2013 ist er für die Öffentlichkeitsarbeit der Maison Meilland und die Geschäftsentwicklung in Asien und Ozeanien zuständig. Matthias is the grandson of Francis Meilland and the son of Alain Meilland. Born in 1977, he worked with his grandmother Louisette Meilland from the age of 4 until 1987, helping her and her team to collect pollen and carry out pollination. In 1983, at the age of 6, Matthias selected the rose that would bear his name: a simple floribunda, easy to grow and a flamboyant red. In the nineties, Matthias followed his father Alain to Central and South America in order to become familiar with the cut flowers sector. From 1997 to 2000, he studied film and photography at Monterey Peninsula College in California, where he met his wife, Devi. They live in Antibes, in the south of France. Since 2013, he is responsible for the public relations of Maison Meilland and business development in Asia and Oceania. Matthias is also a member of the board of directors of CIOPORA (International Community of Breeders of Asexually Reproduced Plant Varieties), which defends breeders' rights with UPOV (International Union for the Protection of New Plant Varieties) and national plant variety protection authorities.

Nel 1983, all'età di 6 anni, Matthias ha scelto la rosa che avrebbe portato il suo nome: una floribunda semplice, facile da coltivare e di un rosso fiammeggiante. Negli anni '90, Matthias ha seguito il padre Alain in America centrale e meridionale per familiarizzare con il settore dei fiori recisi. Dal 1997 al 2000 ha studiato cinema e fotografia al Monterey Peninsula College, in California, dove ha incontrato sua moglie, Devi. Vivono ad Antibes, nel sud della Francia. Dal 2013, è responsabile delle pubbliche relazioni della Maison Meilland e dello sviluppo commerciale in Asia e in Oceania. Né en 1977, il a travaillé avec sa grand-mère Louisette Meilland dès l’âge de 4 ans et jusqu’en 1987, l’aidant, ainsi que son équipe, à récolter le pollen et à effectuer la pollinisation. En 1983, à l’âge de 6 ans, Matthias a sélectionné la rose qui porterait son nom : une floribunda simple, facile à cultiver et d’un rouge flamboyant. Dans les années 90, Matthias a suivi son père Alain en Amérique Centrale et en Amérique du Sud afin de se familiariser avec le secteur des fleurs coupées. De 1997 à 2000, il a étudié le cinéma et la photographie au Monterey Peninsula College, en Californie, où il a rencontré sa femme, Devi. Ils vivent à Antibes, dans le sud de la France. Depuis 2013, il est responsable des relations publiques de la Maison Meilland et du développement commercial en Asie et en Océanie. Matthias est également membre du conseil d’administration de la CIOPORA (Communauté internationale des obtenteurs de variétés végétales à reproduction asexuée), qui défend les droits des obtenteurs auprès de l’UPOV (Union internationale pour la protection des obtentions végétales) et des autorités nationales de protection des obtentions végétales.
