Das Duo Daïs ist eine originelle Begegnung zwischen zwei talentierten Musikern. Aus sehr unterschiedlichen musikalischen Hintergründen suchen heute Susan Edward am Cello und Nicolas Thevenin am akustischen Bass gemeinsam einen neuen Klangraum.
Ein aus dem Jazz kommender 6-saitiger akustischer Bass kreuzt den Weg eines Cellos, das aus klassischer und barocker Musik stammt. Zwei Welten begegnen sich, hören einander zu, sprechen miteinander... und hybridisieren.
Basierend auf den Originalkompositionen von Nicolas Thevenin zielt das Projekt darauf ab, eine einzigartige Klangstruktur zu schaffen, die die Freiheit des Jazz mit barocken Klängen und die französische Sensibilität für den Reichtum der Weltmusik verbindet.
Aus dieser Alchemie entstehen melodische, lebendige, gefühlvolle Stücke - so viele Klangreisen, die zugleich intim und offen für das Andere sind.
Susan Edward ist englischer Herkunft und lebt seit 15 Jahren im Gers. Fünf Jahre lang war sie zwischen Ramallah, Palästina und dem Gers aufgeteilt. In Ramallah war sie Cello-Lehrerin bei der "Barenboim-Said Foundation", einem Musikbildungsprojekt für junge Palästinenser unter der Leitung des israelischen Pianisten und Dirigenten Daniel Barenboim. Im Gers gründete sie den Verein "Kammermusik im Gers". Auch als moderne und barocke Cellistin spielt sie mit dem Kammerorchester von Ariège, dem Mélodia-Orchester, den Sacqueboutiers de Toulouse und dem Ensemble Baroque de Toulouse. Susan Edward erhielt den 1. Preis für Cello und einen Sonderpreis für Kammermusik am "Royal Northern College of Music" in Manchester, England.
Nachdem er die Jazzschule IACP in Paris besucht hatte, sammelte Nicolas Thevenin als Bassist und Komponist immer mehr musikalische Erfahrungen. Er spielte unter anderem mit dem kubanischen Trompeter Ernesto Tito PUENTES, der amerikanischen Sängerin Sharon EVANS, mit der er mehrere Alben aufnahm und zahlreiche Jazz-Szenen in ganz Europa schuf.
Seit 2002 ist er die Basis der Gruppe "CAP LATINO", mit der er 2 Alben aufnimmt, 2 Alben mit der Flamenco-Band "AZULENCA" gespielt und aufgenommen hat und das Bass/Gesangsduo "FORGET ME NOT" gegründet hat. mit Dalila LABORDE, spielt im Myosotis-Trio, mit dem er zwei Alben aufnimmt und in ganz Frankreich tourt; er hat insbesondere Serge LOPEZ und Natacha ATLAS begleitet.

The duo Daïs is an original meeting between two talented musicians. Coming from very different musical backgrounds, Susan Edward on cello and Nicolas Thevenin on acoustic bass are now looking together for a new sound space.
A six-string acoustic bass from jazz meets a cello from classical and baroque music. Two worlds meet, listen to each other, dialogue... and hybridize.
Based on original compositions by Nicolas Thevenin, the project aims to create a unique sound texture, combining the freedom of jazz with baroque sounds, and the French sensitivity to the richness of world music.
From this alchemy are born melodic, living, sensitive pieces—so many sound journeys, both intimate and open to the elsewhere.
Susan Edward is of English origin and has lived in the Gers for 15 years. For 5 years, it is divided between Ramallah, Palestine and the Gers. In Ramallah she was a cello teacher for the "Barenboim-Said Foundation", a musical education project for young Palestinians, directed by the Israeli pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim. In the Gers, she created the association "Musique de chambre dans le Gers". Also a modern and baroque cellist, she plays with the Ariège Chamber Orchestra, the Mélodia Orchestra, the Sacqueboutiers de Toulouse and the Ensemble Baroque de Toulouse. Susan Edward won the 1st prize for cello and a special prize for chamber music at the "Royal Northern College of Music" in Manchester, England.
After studying at the IACP jazz school in Paris, Nicolas Thevenin multiplied his musical experiences as a bassist and composer. He notably plays with the Cuban trumpeter Ernesto Tito DEMONSTRATIONS, the American singer Sharon EVANS with whom he recorded several albums and made many jazz stages all over Europe.
Since 2002, he is at the base of the group "CAP LATINO" with whom he recorded 2 albums, played and recorded 2 albums with the flamenco band "AZULENCA", founded the bass/voice duo "FORGET ME NOT" with Dalila LABORDE, plays in the Myosotis trio with whom he records 2 albums and tours throughout France, he has accompanied notably Serge LOPEZ and Natacha ATLAS.

Il duo Daïs è un incontro originale tra due musicisti di grande talento. Provenienti da ambienti musicali molto diversi, Susan Edward al violoncello e Nicolas Thevenin alla bassa acustica cercano oggi insieme un nuovo spazio sonoro.
Un basso acustico a sei corde proveniente dal jazz incontra un violoncello della musica classica e barocca. Due mondi si incontrano, si ascoltano, dialogano... e si ibridano.
A partire da composizioni originali di Nicolas Thevenin, il progetto mira a creare una texture sonora singolare, mescolando la libertà del jazz alle sonorità barocche e la sensibilità francese alla ricchezza delle musiche del mondo.
Da questa alchimia nascono pezzi melodici, vivi, sensibili - altrettanti viaggi sonori, allo stesso tempo intimi e aperti sull'altro.
Susan Edward è di origine inglese e da 15 anni vive nel Gers. Per 5 anni, si divide tra Ramallah, in Palestina e il Gers. Dopo aver frequentato la scuola di jazz IACP a Parigi, Nicolas Thevenin moltiplica le esperienze musicali come bassista e compositore. Ha suonato con il trombettista cubano Ernesto Tito PUENTES, la cantante americana Sharon EVANS con cui ha registrato diversi album e fatto molte scene jazz in tutta Europa.
Dal 2002, è alla base del gruppo "CAP LATINO" con il quale registra 2 album, ha suonato e registrato 2 album con il gruppo di flamenco "AZULENCA", ha fondato il duo basso/voce "FORGET ME NOT" con Dalila LABORDE, suona nel trio Myosotis con cui registra 2 album e gira per tutta la Francia, ha accompagnato in particolare Serge LOPEZ e Natacha ATLAS.

Le duo Daïs est une rencontre originale entre deux musiciens de grand talent. Issus de milieux musicaux très différents, Susan Edward au violoncelle et Nicolas Thevenin à la basse acoustique cherchent aujourd’hui ensemble un nouvel espace sonore.
Une basse acoustique à six cordes venue du jazz croise la route d’un violoncelle issu de la musique classique et baroque. Deux mondes se rencontrent, s’écoutent, dialoguent… et s’hybrident.
À partir de compositions originales de Nicolas Thevenin, le projet vise à créer une texture sonore singulière, mêlant la liberté du jazz aux sonorités baroques, et la sensibilité française à la richesse des musiques du monde.
De cette alchimie naissent des pièces mélodiques, vivantes, sensibles — autant de voyages sonores, à la fois intimes et ouverts sur l’ailleurs.

El dúo Daïs es un encuentro original entre dos músicos de gran talento. Procedentes de medios musicales muy diferentes, Susan Edward al violonchelo y Nicolas Thevenin a la baja acústica buscan hoy juntos un nuevo espacio sonoro.
Un bajo acústico de seis cuerdas del jazz cruza el camino de un violonchelo de la música clásica y barroca. Dos mundos se encuentran, se escuchan, dialogan... e hibridan.
A partir de composiciones originales de Nicolas Thevenin, el proyecto busca crear una textura sonora singular, mezclando la libertad del jazz con sonoridades barrocas y la sensibilidad francesa a la riqueza de las músicas del mundo.
