The Belem, a three-masted ship with a square-headed lighthouse and a steel hull, is the last of the great 19th-century French merchant sailing ships still on the water: a maritime adventure that has lasted 126 years, having lived no less than five lives, changed nationality three times, and finally returned to the tricolored flag of her origins, cheating death, surviving where thousands of other, bigger, more powerful, newer sailing ships have disappeared forever!
