Lighthouse is a monumental sculpture built between 2015 and 2016 by the Palestinian artist Shareef Sarhan, on the roundabout of the Port of Gaza. A light work built on a recycled base of (war) debris from Gaza. Lighthouse was built in situ, incorporating the participation of engineers and young Gazan artists.
After illuminating this public space for a few years, the work was destroyed by an Israeli tank at the beginning of the war in 2023.
As part of his residency at the Cité des arts de la rue and accompanied by Lieux Publics, L’Échelle, and Ateliers Sud Side structures, Shareef Sarhan has set himself the goal of rebuilding Lighthouse.
Re-lighthouse is an art installation that transcends cities and borders. A story that begins in the port of Gaza, travels to Marseille before traveling through France and Europe, and which will return to settle on terms in the port of Gaza. He carries with him the collective memory of a besieged city and an artistic imagination of resilience.
The work will be presented in Marseille in May 2026 for the opening of the 2026 Mediterranean Season, then in Bordeaux at the end of September at the invitation of the FAB and by Atelline in Montpellier in October.

Faro è una scultura monumentale costruita tra il 2015 e il 2016 dall'artista palestinese Shareef Sarhan, sulla rotonda del porto di Gaza. Un'opera luminosa costruita su una base di riciclaggio dei detriti (di guerra) di Gaza. Faro è stato costruito in situ, con la partecipazione di ingegneri e giovani artisti di Gaza.
Dopo aver illuminato questo spazio pubblico per alcuni anni, l'opera è stata distrutta da un carro armato israeliano all'inizio della guerra nel 2023.
Nell'ambito della sua residenza alla Cité des arts de la rue e accompagnato dalle strutture Lieux Publics, L'Échelle e gli Ateliers Sud Side, Shareef Sarhan si è posto l'obiettivo di ricostruire Faro.
Re-lighthouse è un'installazione artistica che trascende le città e i confini. Una storia che inizia al porto di Gaza, viaggia fino a Marsiglia prima di attraversare la Francia e l'Europa, e che tornerà ad insediarsi a lungo nel porto di Gaza. Porta con sé la memoria collettiva di una città assediata e un immaginario artistico di resilienza.
L'opera sarà presentata a Marsiglia nel maggio 2026 per l'apertura della Stagione Mediterranea 2026, poi a Bordeaux alla fine di settembre su invito del FAB e dall'Atelline a Montpellier in ottobre.

Lleva consigo la memoria colectiva de una ciudad asediada y un imaginario artístico de resiliencia.
La obra será presentada en Marsella en mayo de 2026 para el inicio de la temporada mediterránea 2026, y luego en Burdeos a finales de septiembre por invitación del FAB y por el Atelline en Montpellier en octubre.
