How autobiographical memory works and malfunctions: from neural bases to cognitive processes
Autobiographical memory is a memory system that allows us to remember events personally experienced and includes a set of semantic knowledge we have about ourselves. This memory supports the sense of identity of individuals, creates and maintains relationships with others, and plays a fundamental role in our adaptation to the present moment and how we envision the future. We will see in this conference what are the neural bases and brain structures that underlie autobiographical memory, as well as cognitive processes allowing the recall of lived events. We will also discuss the alterations of autobiographical memory in different diseases, especially in Alzheimer’s disease, and psychotherapeutic avenues to manage them.
