Chicha is a psychedelic cumbia genre that originated in Peru in the 1960s.
Chicha Libre takes this music and takes it on a journey. Founded in New York, the band blends surf guitars, vintage organs, Latin percussion, and synthesizers to create a cosmopolitan and highly free-spirited take on this tropical tradition.
Cumbia rhythms remain at the heart of their sound, but they blend with psychedelic rock, electronic experimentation, and influences from multiple continents.
The result is festive, sometimes strange, and always highly danceable.
At some point during the concert, it becomes quite difficult to stay seated.
