An in situ vigil
During a residency at the Museum of Ethnography Geneva in December 2023, the artistic team behind L’Enveillée immersed themselves in the AIMP (International Archives of Popular Music), listening to songs from around the world devoted to funeral rites. In June 2026, they return to present a vigil created especially for the MEG.
The artistic team of L’Enveillée proposes a unique evening within the temporary exhibition. Vigil songs, laments and funeral chants from every continent, drawn from the AIMP, resonate through the different spaces of the exhibition, revealing their power and singularity. The artists weave a vocal dialogue with these recordings — from song to poem — nourished by their own aesthetic journey and their meditation on dying and the rites that surround it.
An evening to be moved by the necessity of song and poetry at life’s threshold moments — something that has existed in so many places, and which we continue to question today.

Une veillée in situ
Lors d'une résidence au MEG en décembre 2023, l'équipe artistique du projet L'Enveillée s'est immergée dans les AIMP (Archives Internationales de Musique Populaire) à l'écoute de chants du monde entier dédiés aux rites funéraires. En juin 2026, elle revient présenter une veillée spécialement créée pour le MEG.
L'équipe artistique de L'Enveillée propose une soirée inédite au sein de l'exposition temporaire. Des chants de veillées, de lamentations, de funérailles de tous les continents, provenant des AIMP, résonnent au travers des différents espaces de l'exposition, laissant entendre leur puissance et leur singularité. Les artistes tissent avec eux un dialogue vocal, du chant au poème, nourri de leur propre cheminement esthétique et de leur méditation sur le mourir et les rites qui l'entourent.
Une soirée pour se laisser traverser par la nécessité du chant et de la poésie aux moments charnières de la vie, qui a existé en tant de lieux, et que l'on interroge aujourd'hui.
