The chapel of Notre-Dame de Consolation, in Hyères, is much more than a simple religious building: it is a living place, supported by an unfailing citizen mobilization. Since its destruction in 1944 during the landing of Provence, the Hyérois have not ceased to fight for its reconstruction, then for its preservation. Rebuilt between 1952 and 1955 thanks to the commitment of the population and the intervention of renowned artists (Raymond Vaillant, Gabriel Loire, Jean Lambert-Rucki), it today embodies the resilience and deep attachment of the inhabitants to their spiritual and cultural heritage.
Proof of its importance, the chapel recently obtained a double recognition: it was already labeled "Remarkable Contemporary Architecture" since 2014, and has just been listed as a Historic Monument in July 2025, before receiving a favorable opinion for its final classification in April 2026. These distinctions highlight not only its architectural and artistic value, but also the living character of this sanctuary, always at the heart of local devotion and conservation efforts. The Hyérois continue to invest in maintaining this place, which remains a symbol of faith, memory and collective pride.
