Passage and Permanence is born of the desire to place at the center the people who give life to the Way: those who arrive and those who inhabit the territory. The title alludes to the passage as a historical essence of the Camino de Santiago, understood not only as transit, but as an experience of mutual transformation. Over the centuries, the Way has been a privileged space for the movement of people, mentalities and cultures in which the contact with the different allowed to know other ways of living, thinking and relating to the world.
Those who walk the Way pass, but leave and receive experiences and therefore knowledge: each transit incorporates something new to the territory and each territory leaves something in those who cross it. The step thus becomes permanence, and the encounter a way to build a shared identity that transcends local boundaries and roots in an ancient consciousness of belonging to a common cultural space.
The author, Rubén González Prieto, an artist who has lived in Grandas de Salime for ten years, represents this exchange through figures that recreate everyday scenes, inviting us to look at the Camino not only as an itinerary, rather as a space where those who arrive and those who inhabit the territory participate in the same process.
