Born from the industrial revolution of the 19th century, the city of Roubaix was built around textiles, and it is in this context that Joseph Pollet founded La Redoute in 1837, first a family mill renowned for its refined fabrics and knitwear, before becoming the European leader in mail order sales and a major player in French e-commerce in fashion and home. Visionary, the brand has marked the history of modern commerce with its innovations—from the first catalog in 1928 to the Kangaroo menu, from Minitel to "24 h Chrono", to the Internet—while playing a key role in changing consumption patterns.
The exhibition traces this success story through archives, catalogues, advertisements, testimonials and objects, and highlights his collaborations with great couturiers (Yves Saint Laurent, Sonia Rykiel, Jacquemus...), designers (Philippe Starck, Constance Guisset, Christian Lacroix...) and photographers like Dominique Issermann and Kate Barry.

Née de la révolution industrielle du XIXe siècle, la ville de Roubaix s’est construite autour du textile, et c’est dans ce contexte que Joseph Pollet fonde en 1837 La Redoute, d’abord filature familiale réputée pour ses tissus et tricots raffinés, avant de devenir leader européen de la vente par correspondance puis acteur majeur du e-commerce français dans la mode et la maison. Visionnaire, l’enseigne a marqué l’histoire du commerce moderne par ses innovations — du premier catalogue en 1928 à la carte Kangourou, du Minitel au « 24 h Chrono », jusqu’à Internet — tout en jouant un rôle clé dans l’évolution des modes de consommation.
L’exposition retrace cette success-story à travers archives, catalogues, publicités, témoignages et objets, et met en lumière ses collaborations avec de grands couturiers (Yves Saint Laurent, Sonia Rykiel, Jacquemus…), designers (Philippe Starck, Constance Guisset, Christian Lacroix…) et photographes comme Dominique Issermann et Kate Barry.

Geboren uit de industriële revolutie van de negentiende eeuw, de stad Roubaix werd gebouwd rond textiel, en het is in deze context dat Joseph Pollet opgericht in 1837 La Redoute, in eerste instantie een familie spinning bedrijf bekend om zijn verfijnde stoffen en brei, voordat hij europees leider werd op het gebied van postorderverkoop en vervolgens een belangrijke speler in de franse e-commerce in mode en thuis. Visionair, het merk heeft de geschiedenis van de moderne handel gemarkeerd met zijn innovaties – van de eerste catalogus in 1928 tot de Kangaroo kaart, van de Minitel tot de "24 h Chrono", tot het internet – terwijl het een belangrijke rol speelt in het veranderen van consumptiepatronen.
De tentoonstelling volgt dit succesverhaal aan de hand van archieven, catalogi, advertenties, getuigenissen en objecten, en belicht zijn samenwerking met grote ontwerpers (Yves Saint Laurent, Sonia Rykiel, Jacquemus…), ontwerpers (Philippe Starck, Constance Guisset, Christian Lacroix…) en fotografen als Dominique Issermann en Kate Barry.
