Despite the efforts of his father who wants to dissuade him, Pierre Servettaz has the vocation of guide well anchored in him. He loves the mountains as he loves Aline, his fiancée. In vain will he try to turn towards the hotel, in vain accidents and operations will they overwhelm him, the mountain remains the strongest. He feels it fully by going to fetch the body of his father, struck down during a climbing. In turn, Pierre Servettaz will devote himself entirely to the profession of guide.
Louis Daquin demanded of his actors that they ensure themselves the ascension scenes, to be as credible as possible. - Exchanges between Jean-Christophe Rufin following the screening, moderated by Florent Lemonier, director of the LUX cinema.
Friday, September 15 in Malagar:
- At 2:30 pm, participate in “Littérature sans frontière”: Conversation between Jean-Christophe Rufin and Éric Fottorino, writers
narrative, novel or detective novel, whatever the genre, the elsewhere always has the place in the books of Jean-Christophe Rufin who gives life to his characters around the world. - At 4pm, discover «La tentation de l'ailleurs» by Martin Legros, editor-in-chief of Philosophie Magazine: Since the Renaissance and the humanist tradition of the great educational journey, philosophers teach us that spirits expand in proportion to their movements in space. Would this temptation from elsewhere, by opening us to the unknown, make us more alive, more cultured and, who knows, perhaps also happier? - At 5pm, take advantage of «Voyager pour témoigner, idéal et limites du grand reportage», in partnership with the IJBA (Institut du journalisme de Bordeaux Aquitaine): Round table with Arthur Carpentier, video service journalist Le Monde, Pierre-Olivier François, journalist and documentary filmmaker, Salomé Parent, freelance journalist, former correspondent for La Croix au Proche-Orient, Margaux Benn, Grand Reporter at Le Figaro, Prix Albert Londres presse écrite 2022 and Arnaud Schwartz, moderator. To understand the relationship of journalists to travel, we must explore both practical and imaginary aspects of the experience on the ground, also focusing on new methods of coverage of inaccessible areas, including OSINT (Open source intelligence).
Saturday, September 16 in Malagar: - At 10:30 a.m., “Montaigne, Montesquieu and Mauriac en voyage” by Anne-Marie Cocula, President of the Centre Francois Mauriac de Malagar.
- At 11:30 am, discover “One way to exile” by Sonia Devillers, journalist and columnist on France Inter. In «Les Exportations» (Éd. Flammarion, 2022), Sonia Devillers traces how thousands of people, including her grandparents, were «exported» from Ceaucescu’s Romania. An exile whose brutality and consequences are rooted in a family history far beyond the generation that suffered it.
- At 2:30 p.m., take part in «Le voyage spatial, entre science et fiction»: Conversation between Franck Selsis, research director at the Astrophysics Laboratory in Bordeaux, and Natacha Vas-Deyres, essayist and lecturer, anticipation and science fiction specialist. Traveling and exploring space, visiting planets and galaxies is undoubtedly one of the oldest dreams of humanity since Antiquity. From whimsical trips on the moon to exoplanets discovered by astrophysicists, we offer a dialogue between science and imagination, between fantasies and realities of space.
- At 3:30 p.m. “Voyager autrement…”: … Yes, but how? Off the beaten track and off the beaten track? On foot, on horseback, by bike, by train? By choosing proximity rather than the other side of the Earth? In short, how not to give up discovering the world without continuing to ransack the planet?
Debate with Saskia Cousin, anthropologist and sociologist, Julien Blanc-Gras, journalist and writer, Rémy Knafou, geographer, professor emeritus of the University of Paris 1-Panthéon-Sorbonne, Juliette Collovald-Labaronne, journalist, author of Slow train (Éd. Arthaud, 2019) and Laurent Mauriac, moderator.
