Esquelbecq Castle is one of the most representative monuments of Flemish architecture in France. It has retained its medieval plan whose origin dates back to the thirteenth century: a quadrilateral with eight towers and gables with no sparrows, surrounded by wide moats. The imposing keep of 126 steps that stood in the inner courtyard of the castle was lost during the fall of 1984\. In the entrance courtyard, the bulbous dovecote has been preserved since the 17th century as well as the garden.
The Esquelbecq estate is a historical testimony of the traditions of Flemish castles. Tracing the history of Flanders but also the connection of Flanders to France at the end of the 17th century. Despite the few transformations that the estate has undergone, it remains a unique witness of the history of France.
