The historical cradle of the city, the Rocher des Doms was converted into a promenade at the beginning of the 19th century. From 1863 the project of a garden is entrusted to the famous landscape gardener Jean Pierre Barillet-Deschamps, who intervenes in Paris in particular with the prefect Haussmann. He is the author, in others, of the gardens of Luxembourg, Parc Monceau, Parc des Buttes Chaumont and Parc Montsouris. In the garden of the Rocher des Doms, you will find all its own codes: groves, rock pools, perspective and creation of belvederes, a layout with impeccable and elegant curves, while combining the beauty of the scenes. The garden offers a wonderful panorama of the Rhone Valley and is part of an emblematic landscape, with the articulation between the Palais des Papes and the Saint-Bénézet bridge. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List and has recently been protected as a historical monument. After consultation the City selected the team of Aleppo, landscape designers based in Cadenet to carry out a project that aims to restore the garden in respect of its historical and heritage integrity, getting as close as possible to its original state while adapting it to be functional and meet contemporary uses.
