Arboretum with literary atmosphere

The estate became the property of Doctor József Kovács in 1845, who established a botanical garden there. There are more than 1,200 species of trees, shrubs and perennials revealing the magical world of different floras in the 25.5-hectare area. Visitors can admire the old and new collections of the garden on 6 hectares every day of the year.The vegetation of the garden: ornamental trees, ornamental shrubs, evergreens, perennials, aquatic plants and, of course, ground covers. Here you can find wild chestnut in full bloom (Aesculus hippocastanum 'Baumanii'), large-seeded yew (Torreya californica), the largest domestic specimen of silver-trunk pine (Pinus bungeana), yellow-fruited yew (Taxus baccata 'Lutea'), winter green oak (Quercus turneri), gum tree ( Eucommia ulmoides), Saághy spruce (Picea saághi). The garden's maple tree series is also rich. The collection has a large selection of species and varieties of lilacs (Syringa), barberries (Berberis), bird quinces (Cotoneaster). The compilation of the plant material of the Erdőtelki Arboretum is also valuable from the point of view of plant geography.
