Parc du château
6 rampe du Château 41100 Vendôme
- Loir-et-Cher
- Centre-Val de Loire
The first fortified point in the 11th century is a quadrangular keep to the north west of a rocky promontory overlooking the Loir valley. The castle was abandoned and finally moved into the domain of the Crown in 1712\. The revolutionary sale will divide the castle and contribute to its transformation in the 19th century into a romantic park with winding alleys. The majestic cedar planted in 1807 and the panoramic view of the city are the highlights of this 6-hectare pleasure park. A collection of hydrangeas presents the many varieties created by Émile Mouillère and his descendants, Vendôme horticulturists from the late 19th century to the mid-1950s. The visitor can thus rediscover these internationally renowned Vendôme varieties, fruits of a patient work of crossing and selection.
