Château de Jehay
Rue du Parc 1, 4540 Amay, Belgique
The Jehay Castle Park is spread over several hectares divided between the pleasure gardens, the vegetable garden and the wooded areas. The oldest known illustrations are 18th century drawings and engravings by Remacle Leloup. From this period some charmilles and drèves of linden or chestnut trees remain. Redesigned in the middle of the 20th century, it now has certain features inherited from the Italian parks of the Renaissance: creation of perspectives, sculptural decoration and importance of water. Numerous native, exotic and horticultural trees dot the gardens. About 15 of them are classified and are therefore subject to special protection and conservation measures. Apart from these remarkable trees, the bicentenary charmilles and the old chestnut trees structure the place.
