Exhibition: Hessie #Fil #Temps #Contretemps
This exhibition-tribute to Hessie, built in two parts, in resonance with other artists of young contemporary creation expresses the foundations of the Atelier Blanc. The ties and complicities forged with Dado and the Djuric family, as well as the attachment of Pierrette and André Villemagne to support contemporary creation, guide this project that echoes 20 years (already!) of sharing in the territory of Villefranche-de-Rouergue.
Self-taught, immigrant woman Hessie was one of the few artists of color active on the French scene in the 1970s. With poor materials, domestic, feminine or related to childhood as the thread, her work remains strongly contemporary and, according to the art critic Aline Dallier, she is part of the «new Penelopes».
As part of the theme of time, the exhibition devoted to the work of the thread and time spent on the work, brings together around the works of Hessie warmly lent by the Galerie Arnaud Lefebvre with the friendship of the Djuric family, contemporary artists who resonate with her and connect us to her art.
