Recently reopened to the public after four years of work, the restored Dominican convent, place of conservation of the historical collections of Colmar, is an exceptional site for exceptional collections.
It is in this listed monument that the city library has been installed since 1951\. The gallery of the cloister, rebuilt in the middle of the 15th century, serves as a setting for one of the most beautiful ancient collections. In 2012, the departure of public reading collections to the Media Cluster-Culture Edmond Gerrer allows the Library to focus on its functions of conservation and enhancement of the Colmar collections and gives it the vocation to become a first-rate heritage library.
The Library houses considerable collections, including 1,217 manuscripts, a third of which date back to the Middle Ages, 2,300 incunabula (mainly editions from German workshops, which constitute the largest collection of this type of work in France after Paris), 50,000 books printed between the 16th a
