The participants* learn interesting facts about the Eilenriede in general and this forest section in particular.
The green oasis in the middle of the city: With around 640 hectares, the Eilenriede is one of the largest city forests in Europe. It is the remnant of a prehistoric forest migration in the glacial valley of the Leine, which extended between Hildesheim and Neustadt and is first mentioned as "elenriede" in 1333. The name probably means "wet forest", since 1371 the city forest is officially owned by the Hanoverian citizens.
