AFTER A TRIUMPHANT TOUR, THE MUCH AWAITED RETURN OF THIS DANCE WITH LIFE.
In a few moments, she will be no more. But these few moments are worth an eternity. An eternity’s worth of life, desire, memory and terror assail 26-year-old Mary Queen of Scots. She will not live to see her child walk, yet has endured all the tribulations of passion and power and their attendant betrayals. The executioner awaits, time rips through her, turning to nothing but tatters, words shouted at the sky and the panicked movements of a body that storms through space as a kind of final challenge. Since its creation in 2019, by Robert Wilson and Isabelle Huppert at the height of their art, Mary Said What She Said has traveled to all five continents. Now it has returned to its birthplace, Paris: “Because theatre is ephemeral, you always want to return to the pieces you loved performing, this one especially”, says Isabelle Huppert.
