Located in Sérignan at the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, Mrac is an inescapable(major) artistic and tourist place. Large and ample with his(her,its) 3200 m ², he(it) supports and presents French artists as well as international, and invents new forms of mediation in art. The collection of the museum, which proposes a look to the public on creation from 1970s to our days, has just been increase by an exceptional deposit(warehouse) of the National Art Collection of Contemporary Art. In facade, the set(group) compound(made up) of work Rotation of Daniel Buren and The femmes fatales de Err ó, comes of enriching by the installation of Bruno Peinado Il needs to rebuild the Hacienda.
The museum, inaugurated in September, 2006 and managed by the region since 2010, is installed(settled) in an old(former) wine-making cellar. In May, 2016, the museum acquires a new space of 430 m ², located on the first floor by adjacent Post office. This development aims to reinforce the attractivité of the museum on the scale of the new big(great) region and to improve the emphasising of its collections and the wealth of its temporary programme planning(programming).
Exhibition halls present big(great) volumes bathed by natural light. In this convivial and bright atmosphere, different spaces offer themselves to the visitors: a cabinet(office) of graphic arts, permanent and temporary spaces of exhibitions(exposures), and a bookshop-shop.
The collection of the museum, strong of more than 460 works, proposes a look to the public on creation from 1970s to our days. She articulates(is expressed) in large sets putting the emphasis over certain periods of the history of art (Abstract Landscape painting, Conceptual Art, Supports/surfaces(Media), Narrative Playing bit parts, current artistic stage(scene)), evacuating any encyclopaedic attempt. Consisted partly of gifts(donations) of artists and of collectors of the region, she(it) offers a focus thereabouts on Supports/surfaces(Media) and the Narrative Playing bit parts.
Thanks to the creation of new reserves in May, 2016, Mrac benefits for five years of a deposit(warehouse) of works of the collection of the National Art Collection of Contemporary Art managed by Cnap. This deposit(warehouse), exceptional all over its scale (170 registered works, that is an increase of 38 % of the collection of the museum) is going to allow to discover collisions(hangings) of collections more various and anchored historically. By this deposit(warehouse), Mrac joins so a prestigious list of French museums for which Cnap agreed to long deposits(warehouses), among which the Centre Pompidou of Paris, Capc of Bordeaux or else the museums of Saint-Etienne or of Grenoble.
In facade of extension, the permanent work of Bruno makes link with the initial building(ship), while proposing a correlation with that of Daniel Buren. With this external work, Mrac, like an open-air museum, becomes a strong element of the urban landscape, calling out(questioning) on their passage to the visitors and to the passer-bys.
