Regional archaeology has been discussed since prehistoric times. From the Palaeolithic period, the strange engravings of the Grotte de la Marche occupy a special place in Magdalenian art. One will also notice the richness of the furniture coming from neolithic burials, interesting «deposits» of the Bronze Age, as well as some examples of protohistoric ceramics with anthropomorphic decoration. Some Roman walls preserved on site recall that this district of Limonum did not cease to be occupied in Antiquity. Mile markers, inscriptions, epitaphs found in the rampart of the Lower Empire introduce us to the city of the Pictons. Under the protective gaze of Minerva, the religion and daily life of the Gallo-Romans are evoked. The funerary rites are evoked by the discovery of Antran and by a collection of glasses from Poitou necropolises. From late Antiquity and the High Middle Ages testify carved sarcophagi and the rare stucco decoration of Vouneuil-sous-Biard. A beautiful series of sculptures
