A mountain castle, the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle was first mentioned in the 12th century. Belonging to large families including the Habsburgs, the Tiersteins and the Hohenstaufens, it was reworked and transformed several times. It reached its peak in the 15th century, was destroyed again, and was restored in the early 20th century by Emperor William II. Listed as a historical monument in 1993, it presents a collection of furniture, weapons and objects dating from the 15th to the 20th century.
