The completely renovated Gagnon apartment opened its doors to the public in September 2012\. It is in this place full of history that the future Stendhal lives his childhood years with his grandfather, Dr.Henri Gagnon. The apartment evokes the life of the writer in Grenoble, his friends and teachers, the city where he attends the first tremors of the French Revolution. From the windows of the Gagnon apartment, he is the curious and admiring spectator of this France in full boil. Before he left for Paris at the age of sixteen, Stendhal’s heart and spirit were formed here. The terrace of the apartment, known as "Treille de Stendhal", opens its doors to you to discover the art of botany practiced by Doctor Gagnon, accompanied by his grandson. From this terrace overlooking the City Garden, Stendhal observes the good society that gives itself to see, and knows its first emotions by admiring Virginie Kubly, young actress.
