In the footsteps of Theodore Deck - exhibition and theatre
As part of the “Class, Work!” , the Théodore Deck Museum has partnered with the Labo des Histoire Grand Est and the author and moderator of writing workshops, Beevy Jalma, to accompany the 5th class of the Collège Mathias Grünewald de Guebwiller in the promotion of certain museum archives: correspondence from members of the Deck family. Students visited the museum and studied the contents of the letters and captured the personality of their authors.
During a theatrical performance, they give life to these characters from Theodore Deck’s entourage. In parallel, they exhibit their artistic productions - conceived in the manner of palimpsests - inspired by these archives and the works of the ceramist, and some of their texts (diaries and imagined correspondences), fruit of their work in writing workshops. Visitors can also discover the Deck collections with a little game concocted by the students: stories of objects from the Deck collection.
For a multidisciplinary approach to Deck’s work, students in the college dance group also perform a choreography in which blue scarves flutter among the artistic productions in this space dedicated to Deck. Two performances are planned.
Synopsis of the sketch: Theodore Deck died. Xavier, Annette, Richard and Marguerite meet at the notary’s, in the waiting room, before the reading of their brother’s will. Between unspoken and claims, everyone will talk about his connection to Theodore, about the man, the brother, the artist he was.
