Exhibition «The best of the 19th century in the museums of Troyes»
Would you prefer to see the interior of a forge with sparks in the air, or the calm of a Moroccan desert? Do you want to travel to the middle ages, or to Renaissance Italy? The 19th century had a taste for escape, especially in the arts. We could say with Baudelaire, “There is nothing but order and beauty, calm luxury and pleasure…”. The exhibition also accompanies the visitor by dotting his visit with literary extracts, to immerse himself in the atmosphere of the time. Rarely presented to the public for lack of space, the 19th century art collection occupies a central place within the museums of Troyes. It is the third in France by its number of sculptures (after the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Angers). It tells the history of this modern century: the Industrial Revolution, the fine clothes of the bourgeoisie, clashes between artists, Parisian life in the era of Art Nouveau… Enough to arouse everyone’s curiosity!
The museums of the City of Troyes are exceptionally free on Saturday 13 May from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 6pm and during the Night of Museums from 8pm to midnight.
