MEG and the Black Movie Festival join forces for Sunday movies.
MEG's Sunday films continue for a season around three essential and current notions: decolonisation, gender and sustainability.
Documentary, fiction and animation films addressing these themes will be screened free of charge in the Museum's Auditorium on several Sundays each month.
In 1989, after a clash near the border between Mauritanian herders and Senegalese farmers, there was an incredible escalation of racist violence in both countries. These events resulted in thousands of deaths and tens of thousands of refugees. Alassane Diago is organising an agora bringing together witnesses and victims to tell their stories and, above all, to go back to the sources of the tensions in order to exorcise this history that haunts both peoples and continues to stir up hatred. Unsurprisingly, colonisation and its dismantling are part of the spectrum of responsibilities... So, is a beginning of reconciliation possible?
The screening will be followed by a meeting with the director, Alassane Diago.
In collaboration with and as part of the Black Movie Festival.

- Alassane Diago: Born in 1985 in Agname Lidoubé, a Fulani village in the north-east of Senegal, Alassane Diago studied philosophy and became passionate about writing at an early age, which later led him to realise his dream of becoming a director. Participating in the shooting of several films, he followed a training in audiovisual at the Media Center in Dakar in 2007. In 2010, he directed his first feature-length documentary Les larmes de l'émigration and won the Best Documentary Award, Casa Africa Award at the Tarifa African Film Festival (Spain) and the Best Documentary Award at the Festival international du Film Francophone de Namur (Belgium). He is now a regular at the Black Movie Festival: this is his third film to be presented.

Le MEG et le festival Black Movie s'associent dans le cadre des ciné-dimanches.
Les ciné-dimanches du MEG continuent pour une saison autour de trois notions essentielles et actuelles: la décolonisation, le genre et la durabilité.
Des films documentaires, des fictions et des films d'animation abordant ces thématiques seront projetés gratuitement dans l'Auditorium du Musée plusieurs dimanches par mois.
En 1989, après un accrochage près de la frontière entre bergers mauritaniens et paysans sénégalais, a eu lieu une incroyable escalade de violence raciste dans les deux pays. Ces évènements ont provoqué des milliers de mort-e-s et des dizaines de milliers de réfugié-e-s. 30 ans après, malgré les apparences, les plaies ne se sont pas refermées.
Alassane Diago organise une agora réunissant témoins et victimes afin de se raconter, et surtout de remonter aux sources des tensions dans le but d’exorciser cette histoire qui hante les deux peuples et continue d’attiser la haine. Sans surprise, la colonisation et son démantèlement font partie du spectre des responsabilités… Dès lors, un début de réconciliation est-il possible ?
La projection sera suivie d'une rencontre avec le réalisateur, Alassane Diago.

- Alassane Diago : Né en 1985 à Agname Lidoubé, un village Peul du nord-est du Sénégal, Alassane Diago étudie la philosophie et se passionne dès son plus jeune âge pour l'écriture qui l'amène par la suite à réaliser son rêve : devenir réalisateur. Participant au tournage de plusieurs films, il suit une formation en audiovisuel au Media Center de Dakar en 2007. En 2010, il réalise son premier long-métrage documentaire Les larmes de l'émigration et remporte le Prix du meilleur documentaire, Prix Casa Africa au Tarifa African Film Festival (Espagne) et le Prix du meilleur documentaire au Festival international du Film Francophone de Namur (Belgique). Il est depuis un habitué du festival Black Movie : c'est son troisième film qu'il vient présenter.
