This exhibition is part of the programme of the Rencontres d'Arles as part of the Grand Arles Express. Harold Feinstein’s retrospective is an ode to life, an intimate and personal representation of post-war America. In this portrait of the ordinary, the photographer immortalizes simple moments captured on the spot. From the legendary Coney Island amusement park, a recurring motif in his work, to the daily life of a GI during the Korean War, to the streets of Brooklyn and Harlem that he roams tirelessly, Harold Feinstein experiments, testifies and recounts. The exhibition consists mainly of original black-and-white prints that retrace more than 60 years of a considerable career that mixes small and large history.
