The hexagonal basin of Chalais is located in the southern part of the great perspective of the Old Castle (seventeenth century) of Meudon. Former hall of the universal exhibition of 1878 at the Champs de Mars in Paris in metal frame, the hangar Y was reassembled to Chalais-Meudon in 1879 to serve as a hangar for balloons and airships in this place, at the time «Central Establishment of the Military Aerotation».
