Rendez-vous at the court of Burgundy
On the occasion of the 2024 edition of the European Heritage Days, Pierre de Roubaix and Jehan de Rubempré, advisor to Philippe le Bon and Charles le Téméraire, welcome young and old to the Burgundian court. Lords, bourgeois, soldiers and musicians present the atmosphere of a celebration of the late Middle Ages in Flanders of the Dukes of Burgundy, like the banquet of the pheasant that took place in 1454. To the sounds of bagpipes, vièle, flutes and drums, the Saltabraz group ensures the musical atmosphere of both afternoons. The daily life of the great Burgundian lords and bourgeois of the city of Lille is revealed: their activities, their lifestyles, their extravagant costumes composed of voluminous dresses, feathered hats and hairstyles decorated with precious stones. On the military encampment of the Flemish Lions, the medieval offensive and defensive armament is exposed: helmets, armor, mesh protections, hast weapons and especially the impressive artillery pieces that are heard around the park. Visitors even have the opportunity to relive the «no weapon», a kind of courteous sports competition simulating a military situation. Many participatory workshops are also offered continuously.
