Original and controversial, the artist enjoys an international reputation during his lifetime thanks to his striking and provocative framing. He appeared at the beginning of the 20th century as a precursor of new modernist photography.
Real photographic "paintings", his creations explore a fertile dialogue between the different forms of art.
The exhibition explores the career of this innovative artist based on his roots in Lille and confirms the commitment of the Palais des Beaux-Arts to promoting photography after the experiments conducted with Dirk Braeckman, Gautier Deblonde and Hélène Marcoz.

Original et controversé, l’artiste jouit de son vivant d’une renommée internationale grâce à ses cadrages saisissants et provocateurs. Il apparait au début du 20e siècle comme un précurseur de la nouvelle photographie moderniste.
Véritables "tableaux" photographiques, ses créations explorent un dialogue fertile entre les différentes formes d’art.
L’exposition parcourt la carrière de cet artiste novateur à partir de son ancrage lillois et confirme l’engagement du Palais des Beaux-Arts dans la valorisation de la photographie après les expériences menées avec Dirk Braeckman, Gautier Deblonde ou Hélène Marcoz.
