Église Notre-Dame
Place du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny, 51220 Cauroy-lès-Hermonville
The Church of Our Lady of Cauroy-lès-Hermonville is a church of the twelfth and thirteenth century, classified as a historical monument since 1862\. In Romanesque style, its gallery porch is considered one of the oldest in the region, perhaps even the ancestor of all the local gallery porches, and is reputed to be the most decorated in Champagne. The original nave was restored in 1763, while the aisles, with a series of gables and two-sided roofs, date from 1863\. The capitals of the porch are remarkable because they all have a different decor. It preserves a stone altarpiece of the sixteenth century, stone statues of Saint Fiacre, early sixteenth century and Saint Anne learning to read to Mary of the seventeenth century. Four carved wooden angels come from the old high altar.
The church was badly damaged by the First World War and its reconstruction was completed in 1927.
