VISIT OF A FORMER SHOOTING RANGE TRANSFORMED INTO PROFESSIONAL PREMISES
The CAUE de l'Ain, in association with the Association des Architectes de l'Ain, offers a visit of the architecture agency with explanations from Séverin Perreaut architect. Project designed by Severin Séverin Perreaut of the Manufacture de l'Ordinaire. The shooting range of the citadel was used for 80 years for training by the 23rd RI of Bourg-en-Bresse. In 1993, the military site was closed and became the property of the city and remained intact until its sale in 2016.
The project claims the heritage character of an existing property belonging to the ordinary heritage of the nineteenth century. This is why the project relies on a sensitive reading of the existing to register without major modification. The objective is to offer an ordinary heritage the ability to respond to contemporary uses and issues. All without deflecting its strength or essence and allow it another life after.
In this sense, the existing enclosure consisting of ancient walls of the city bastions has been preserved. The existing concrete roofs cover the building, they are interrupted punctually to let natural light illuminate the shooting exercises. The whole is preserved allowing the user to capture a singular atmosphere made of impact still perceptible. On the east side, the only door once used to access targets, now gives access to a patio that distributes the different spaces.
