The large lock of Réchicourt-le-Château is a remarkable work of art from the Marne to the Rhine canal. Inaugurated in 1965, it celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. With its waterfall ranging from 15.45 m to 16.18 m, it is considered the highest lock in France at the Freycinet gauge. This massive concrete structure was built to replace a succession of six locks and allows the passage of boats in 30 minutes, compared to 6 hours before.
Since the spring of 2025, visitors have had the opportunity to admire an XXL mural by street-artist Adec. Entitled Passeur d'eaux douces, the work features a monumental heron, inhabited by multiple characters and sketches to be discovered as one approaches the site. This "inhabited nature" is a tribute to the relationship between man and his environment, which invites contemplation and travel.

Acceso

Accessible by boat, on foot or from the cycle route (V52), the lock overlooking the canal offers a magnificent view to the west. By vehicle, access possible from the D91, with motorhome parking below the lock. Address: 48°41'31.1"N 6°50'41.8"E
