The Citadel is a fortress built in the sixteenth century belonging to the town of Villefranche-sur-Mer. It became a centre of art and culture in 1981, after being demilitarized in 1967 and then classified as a Historic Monument in 1968\. It has fine art collections «Musée de France» ranging from the 16th century to the 21st century. In addition to its collections, La Citadelle is an art centre, offering an atypical playground of more than 3 hectares to contemporary artists invited to invest its spaces. The Citadelle offers artist residencies with the support of public and private institutions.
