The Vernajoul wastewater treatment plant, built in 2015, receives urban effluents from many municipalities around the city of Foix. With a treatment capacity equivalent to 25,000 inhabitants, this treatment system is based on the activated sludge-type process with extended aeration, on two parallel lines.
The treatment process, including screening, desalination/de-oiling, aeration and clarification, releases treated water in accordance with environmental standards into the Ariège River.
