To celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024, the museum of the Departmental Domain of Sceaux offers a large exhibition devoted to the history of cycles, the balance bike without pedals, invented at the beginning of the nineteenth century, to today’s sporting and recreational practices. A set of 25 ancient cycles is exceptionally presented, alongside old posters, photographs, costumes and toys. Among the objects of curiosity, the steam velocipede by Louis-Guillaume Perreaux (1816-1889), dating from 1870-1871: a unique example considered the very first motorcycle in history! Mediators will be present in the exhibition to answer all your questions.

Jules Hardouin-Mansart, King Louis XIV’s first architect, built the Orangery in 1686 for the Marquis de Seignelay, Colbert’s eldest son. From its creation, it was converted into an art gallery. Today, it is a gallery of sculptures, a conference room, concerts and shows. From 21 June to 31 December 2024, the building hosts the exhibition "Free wheels, the great history of cycling" labeled Cultural Olympiad.
