Walk freely through the church / Follow in groups of 5 to 10 people a guided tour from 30 to 40 min..
Our bell tower stands out from afar, with the Romanesque bedside they are characteristic of the Pays Lyonnais. They form a harmonious whole. with the enclosure of the fortified priory at XI° siécle.
The priory, sold as national property during the revolution in 1791, is a private property open for events but not for tourist or cultural visits.
To anticipate our guided tour, the video of Michel PEYRARD is available on Viméo choose "the Church of the Nativity of Our Lady of Taluyers"
Architecturally, the building has two main parts:
First, an apse of the XII° siécle with two apses and the transept. Then, the nave and its collateral rebuilt in the middle of the XVIII°. The paintings and main stained glass windows developed in the 19th century and restored in 1992 and 2019.
The visit begins at the crossing of the transept in front of a listed stained glass window. This representation is the birth certificate of Taluyers, built around the castle and the priory. In 999, Blismonde de Mercoeur handed over his rural estate of Talusatis to his brother Odilon, the fifth abbot of Cluny, to found a priory.
The main architectural elements are then presented. They frame paintings redone in the middle of the 19th century. They are the richness of this church and leave no one indifferent, they shock some by their naivety and amaze others by their homogeneity.
In any case, these paintings are a teaching medium for the history of art and theology. We will be working on them this year.
