Saturday 16 September at 10am, 11am and 2pm/// Guided tours of the Roman villa by Martine Leguilloux (Centre Archéologique du Var)
Built in the 1st century AD and inhabited for 600 years, the Roman villa Saint-Martin in Taradeau is one of the Var examples that best illustrates the operation of a Roman farm. The excavations carried out by the Archaeological Center of the Var since 1994 have revealed a vast complex that includes a productive part, in which one can still admire the remains of the presses, the crushers, the cellars and the mill. The owners also built a luxurious residence in the western part of the complex.

About the location

Château de Saint Martin

The Château de Saint Martin is a wine estate with an exceptional history and architectural heritage: a historic site where the cultivation of vines and numerous remains prove a Roman presence from the 2nd century BC to the 7th century AD: a Gallo-Roman villa testifies to this on the spot. It was also a wine priory of the Lérins monks from the 10th to the 18th century. Peculiarity of this Castle, the property belongs to the same family since the eighteenth century and is transmitted from women to women; it today combines the art of receiving in multiple forms with a range of elegant and refined wines.. An exceptional terroir on 50 ha that allows to combine high-end wine culture and wine tourism activities, but also an original reception place: seminars, weddings, wine and sports activities (rallies..). The Castle also has 5 guest rooms of period charm.
